Slo-pitch BBQ in Wallaceburg for Olivia and Preslie

While the teams battle it out for Wallaceburg Slo-Pitch supremacy on Saturday, September 9, a special fundraising barbecue will be taking place on the sidelines.

A group of women from town have organized a fundraiser in support of Olivia Formosa and Preslie Hensel.

Both Wallaceburg girls have been battling health issues and the community has stepped up to provide assistance to both families.

“We want to help these families,” DeeJay Laprise, who helped organize the barbecue, told the Sydenham Current.

“The families have enough going on and to have to worry about money should be the last thing on their mind. So with Craig (Buchan, her husband) playing in the playoffs, why not while we are there watching help raise money for these two beautiful little girls.”

Laprise said the barbecue will run from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Glen Mickle Park in Wallaceburg.

Hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks will be available for purchase.

“If we are really busy, we will keep it going longer,” she said.

The Wallaceburg Slo-Pitch playoff begins on Friday night at 7 p.m. and resumes at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

The championship game is slated for 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Olivia was recently diagnosed with a brain tumour that is grade 3.

She is set to undergo chemotherapy and will be traveling to the U.S for radiation treatments.
