Update: No charges after fatal Moraviantown crash

No charges have been laid after a fatal crash in Moraviantown last year.

Moravian First Nation Police, assisted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit, have concluded their investigation of the November 19, 2016 fatal motor vehicle collision which occurred on Moravian of the Thames First Nation.

The investigation has determined the driver was not at fault and no charges will be laid in the matter.

“The OPP offers its sincerest condolences to the community as it heals from this incident,” OPP officials said.

Police officials say on November 19 last year, the Chatham-Kent OPP responded to the motor vehicle collision on at around 1:40 a.m.

Preliminary investigation revealed a black Chrysler 300 had turned south onto Centre Street when the vehicle struck three pedestrians who were walking on the road.

As a result of the collision, Bailey Jacobs, 16-years-old of Moraviantown First Nation, died as a result of her injuries.

The two other pedestrians, a 17-year-old and a 24-year-old, were injured and taken to the hospital.

The driver of the motor vehicle, a 21-year-old male from Moraviantown First Nation, was not injured.
