New Terry Fox Run organizers thrilled with outcome

While the final results are still being tallied, the new organizers are thrilled with the outcome of the annual Terry Fox Run in Wallaceburg.

Moira Eggett, who along with her husband Brad took over the organizing duties from Doug and Leah McArthur this year, said approximately 150 participants raised over $13,000 at Sunday’s run.

“A lot of new faces compared to when Brad and I use to participate. That is pretty exciting,” Moira Eggett told the Sydenham Current.

“We are just so excited that we are doing this. It started with a fire truck to do the siren to get everybody started and we had two police escort cars. It’s just fun. Very good.”

Eggett said Terry Fox is near and dear to her and her husbands hearts.

“We both remember seeing him when we lived in London,” she said.

“We were 15 and he ran through Victoria Park. It was very inspirational. We were approached by the McArthur’s over the past few years ‘you know maybe one of these years you guys may want to take it over.’ It just so happened that they were going to be away this year, so we just jumped right in and we just want to keep it going in Wallaceburg.”

Eggett added: “It means a lot to us and I know it means a lot to a lot of people. It is just a matter of just having great volunteers and organizers to keep it going.”

Eggett said the weather was absolutely beautiful on Sunday as well.

“The day is absolutely fabulous,” she said.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better day. Sun shining, nice and warm with a light breeze. It’s perfect.”
