Lakers top Kings in 2017/2018 home opener

The Wallaceburg Lakers topped the Dresden Kings on Wednesday night in the team’s home opener at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena.

The final score was 5-3 for Wallaceburg.

Zachery Hartig led the way for the Lakers with 2 goals, while Tyler McLean and Ryan MacAlpine both shipped in with two assists each.

Cody Nicolaisen, Zander Wright and Ty Lucio also scored.

Josh Loranger stopped 20 of 23 Kings shots to earn the win in net.

Kevin Ritzer had 2 goals and 1 assist for 3 points to lead the Kings.

Brantly Kuipers had 1 goal and 1 assist for Dresden, while Brendan Ritchie added two helpers.

Cody Hitchcock stopped 23 of 28 Lakers shots in the loss.

A total of 320 fans packed into the arena for the game.

Wallaceburg improved their record to 1-2-0 on the young season, while Dresden fell to 1-1-0.

The Lakers host Lakeshore on Wednesday in their next game, while Dresden hosts Essex on Friday night.

The Kings also hit the road on Monday to battle the Wheatley Sharks.
