The Wallaceburg Kinsmen Club is gearing up for their third annual Pumpkinfest on Saturday, September 23.

John Parsons, a Kinsmen member and one of the event organizers, told the Sydenham Current there will be a variety of activities taking place.

“We have some more pumpkins that are coming in this year. So we have at least 10 of them that are confirmed right now. Hopefully a few more before the weekend comes,” Parsons said.

“Pancake breakfast starts at 9 a.m. We have food vendors that are going to be there. ‘Just Country Boys’ will start playing from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. We have a 50/50 draw. Tickets will be available at the event. A free kids zone which is open for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A barbecue.

Parsons added: “The Crafter’s Market will be inside where the Bingo Hall is. The Wallaceburg Skating Club is putting that on. Cystic Fibrosis is putting on a silent auction which will be in the gymnasium and we have a pumpkin pie baking contest which is new this year.”

Parsons said cost to enter the pumpkin pie contest is one extra pie.

“So you bake two pies and then one of the pies goes into the contest and one pie is auctioned off with the proceeds being donated to charity,” he said.

Pumpkinfest is alwasy a great family event, Parsons said.

“This is a great day for families to come out. Bring their families and kids out. We do have stuff for the kids to do. We have a beer tent available, so for any of the adults that wish to have a cold beverage there, we will be more than able to do so,” he said.

“It is a great event for the Kinsmen Club to be able to put on and do something for the community. The proceeds that are raised from the event go back out to the community in the form of donations to local sports teams and charity groups.”

Parsons said the weather is looking good for the event as well.

“I think from the looks of it we are going to have very good weather for the weekend,” he said.

“Let’s knock on wood and hope that doesn’t change.

Parsons said there is a long list of people to thank for helping with the event.

“I would like to thank anybody that has made donations to the Kinsmen Club to be able to put this event on,” he said.

“Anyone that has made donations to cystic fibrosis, thank you very much for items for the silent auction. I would also like to thank everybody that has come out to support the Kinsmen Club and for anybody that has done any work whatsoever in anyway for helping out putting this event together. Big thank you to all of them.”
