Chatham-Kent staff are eyeing the middle of November to have the new traffic light installed at the Murray Street and Reaume Avenue intersection in Wallaceburg.

Bids started being accepted on Thursday, September 28 from contractors and the tender process is set to close on Wednesday, October 11 at 1:30 p.m.

“We are specifying the installation of the pedestrian signal to be completed as soon as possible and no later than November 17,” Mark Ceppi, engineering technologist with the Municipality, told the Sydenham Current.

Ceppi said staff is moving the process along as quickly as possible.

“We would normally set a more conservative completion date than the six weeks specified for this contract tender,” Ceppi said.

“Contractors typically do not stock all of the materials required for constructing a pedestrian signal and therefore supplier time restraints must be also be considered. However, we’ve been directed by Council to expedite the installation and therefore tighter timelines were specified.”

Ceppi said the contractors that have submitted a quote will not be revealed until Wednesday, October 11.

A motion by Wallaceburg Coun. Carmen McGregor to convert the recently installed pedestrian crossover (Type B) device to a pedestrian-activated stop light, was approved by council on September 18.
