Some students from Wallaceburg Christian School are “shaken up” but doing fine after a crash between a car and a school bus near Dresden on Tuesday morning.
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say this morning at approximately 8 a.m. emergency crews responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a school bus on Croton Line at Dawn Mills Road.
Police officials say the driver of the car, a 78-year-old Wallaceburg woman has suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries as a result of the collision.
Police say in addition, minor injuries were reported by some of the passengers on the school bus, but medical assistance was not required.
Selena Finley, whose three children were on the bus when the crash occurred, told the Sydenham Current she is thankful none of the children were seriously hurt.
“We are just so blessed that everyone is okay,” Finley said.
“The kids are a bit shaken up, but they handled it very well. We are beyond thankful that our bus driver looks after our children like they are her own. She too is doing well.”
Finley said Wallaceburg Christian School is like a small family.
“So we all come together in a time of need,” she said.
“Our prayers for healing and strength go out to the driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision.”
Wallaceburg Christian School officials said they are thankful as well.
“We give thanks to God for his protection during an accident involving our bus this morning,” school officials posted on social media.
“Students and bus driver are all fine. We pray for healing for a broken bone that a passenger suffered in the car involved in the incident.”
Police say the crash remains under investigation at this time.
“An update will be provided once further information surfaces,” stated Const. Kelly Helbin, public information officer with the Chatham-Kent Police Service.
