Photo of the day – Local youth help out their neighbour

Caiden Williams, Brody Moore, Cole Knight and Landon Allaer (Aaron Hall)

A few weeks ago, these four boys from Wallaceburg took some time out of their summer evening to help a local man, who was recovering from a recent motor vehicle collision. Each of the boys took turns cutting parts of the man’s lawn. Way to give back and help your neighbour, gentlemen!

Big boost to CKHA

The Foundation of Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) is pleased to announce that the Public General Hospital (PGH) Foundation has made a very generous donation of $600,000 to the $6.9 million CKHA Diagnostic Imaging Equipment Renewal Campaign.

The decision was made at a recent Public General Hospital Foundation Annual General Meeting by the Board of Directors.

“Although the diagnostic imaging department is located outside of the PGH wing of the Chatham campus, we recognize the department impacts all areas of the hospital,” stated Charlene Weber, Vice Chair, Public General Hospital Foundation, in a press release.

“The equipment being supported by the Foundation of CKHA’s campaign has the potential to benefit every person in Chatham-Kent, and we are proud to support this initiative.”

This is the first transfer of funds from the Public General Hospital Foundation to the Foundation of CKHA since 2013.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have the support of the PGH Board as we move forward in this campaign,” stated Candice Jeffrey, Director of Development, Foundation of CKHA.

“Almost every department in the hospital utilizes the DI department when providing treatment to patients, and this $600,000 support brings us much closer to our fundraising goal.”

Launched in late 2014, the $6.9 million Diagnostic Imaging Equipment Renewal Campaign will support CKHA in the purchase of 18 new pieces of equipment for the Diagnostic Imaging Department, including an urgently needed replacement of the dated CT Scan and a new mammography system. To date, more than $5.3 million has been raised.

This fall, the Chatham-Kent Public Library invites everyone to ‘Come Write In’ with the National Novel Writing Month Challenge.

Every year thousands participate in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), the worldwide challenge of completing a 50,000 word novel between November 1 and November 30. All month long, CKPL’s Chatham Branch will open up its board room to aspiring writers in support of NaNoWriMo.

This program is for all writers looking for some inspiration, a quiet place to work or a chance to meet other “Wrimos.”

Come Write In will be offered every Wednesday in November from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

For those interested in learning more about the NaNoWriMo challenge, visit the Chatham Branch Wednesday, October 18 at 5 p.m. for the “NaNo What Mo?” information night with your Chatham-Kent municipal liaisons, Laura and Danielle.

Laura and Danielle will be available to answer any questions and to present information on signing up, connecting with other Wrimos and preparing for November.

Laura and Danielle will also be hosting a NaNoWriMo Kick-Off event on Wednesday, October 25 at 5 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to share project ideas and discuss tips and tricks for a successful NaNoWriMo.
