Another tray of lottery tickets stolen

A Walpole Island man faces multiple charges, after a tray of lottery tickets was stolen from a Chatham variety store.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say Tuesday night at 10:56 p.m. officers responded to Lucky 7 Variety located at 393 McNaughton Avenue in Chatham due to a theft of lottery tickets.

Police say the man’s identity was learned as he was captured on video surveillance.

Minutes later, police observed a vehicle travelling just north of the variety store and a traffic stop was initiated on St. Clair Road at Pioneer Line.

Police allege the suspect was observed seated within the backseat of this vehicle, along with the tray of lottery tickets and drugs.

Through investigation it was learned that the man was also on conditions not to possess or consume any unlawful drugs or substances.

At approximately 1 a.m. the 33-year-old Walpole Island man was arrested and charged with the following:

– Theft under $5,000

– Possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000

– Possession of a narcotic x 2

– Failing to comply

He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he has been held for a bail hearing.
