Two motorcyclists caught driving over 200 km/h

Two motorcyclists are facing charges after allegedly being caught driving over 200 km/h on Highway 40.

Lambton OPP officials say on September 26 at 8:15 p.m. officers received several complaints in relation to two motorcycles racing in the area of 40 Highway and LaSalle Line in Sarnia.

Police officials say an OPP Officer on general patrol observed the offending motorcycles north bound on 40 Highway north of LaSalle Line.

OPP officials allege the officer followed the motorcycles as they rapidly sped away and eventually utilizing his moving radar, measured the speed of the motorcycles in excess of 200 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone.

The motorcycles were followed at a distance until they were caught up in traffic at which time the officer took control of the motorcycles by removing the keys in order to prevent the continuation of the offence and to deter escape.

As a result, a 35 year-old Sarnia man and a 26 year-old Sarnia man had their motorcycles and driver’s licences seized for seven days and were charged with Racing, Section 172(1) of The Highway Traffic Act and must appear at the Sarnia Traffic Court on December 8, 2017.
