Lorna Zavitz of Wallaceburg

Lorna Isabel (Richardson) Zavitz was born in Montreal in February of 1927, raised in Toronto, and passed away on 24 October 2017 in Wallaceburg – her home of 68 years.

This big-city girl’s life was changed forever by a blind date in 1948 courtesy of Bob and Helen Morrow. Lorna, who worked with Helen at Bell was introduced to her future husband of nearly 50 years – Ted, who was attending Chiropractic College with Bob, and the rest is history. They were married on Lorna’s 22nd birthday and settled back in Wallaceburg to live the dream and raise their family.

Mom was an avid bridge player (belonging to two long-standing clubs), a voracious reader and an accomplished homemaker. When we were young she sewed many of our clothes which no doubt gave us our tremendous fashion sense. She was also a fantastic cook and it is apparent that growing up we didn’t miss too many meals or dessert.

Predeceased by her parents Arthur Colby and Alice Sarah (Ligget) Richardson, her husband Ted (1998), sister Audrey Wells and brother James. She leaves to mourn, her three sons Scott (Sandra) of Wallaceburg, Steve (Nicole) of Chatham and Rich (Allison) of Burlington. Also 6 grandchildren – Zachary, Mackenzie, Adriana, Andrew, Evelyn and Elizabeth and several nieces and nephews.

Although the past decade has been unkind to mom’s health, she met each challenge with stoicism and grace. Thank you to the staff at the Sydenham Residence for their kind care over the past 5 years and to the nurses and doctors at the Wallaceburg hospital for their care in her final days. Thank you also to Margie Zavitz and Jeannette Vankerkhoven for your decades of devoted friendship.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the HAYCOCK-CAVANAGH FUNERAL HOME, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg on Friday, October 27 from 11 – Noon with the funeral to follow at Noon. Interment to follow at Riverview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest donations to the C.N.I.B. or the Canadian Cancer Society be left at the funeral home 519.627.3231. Online tributes may be left at www.CavanaghFuneralHome.ca
