It is with profound sadness that the family of Michael James McGivern announce his sudden passing at home on Friday, October 27, 2017 at the age of 73.
He was born in Chatham and was the son of the late John & Rose (O’Hara) McGivern. Loving husband of Rita McGivern (nee Myers). Dear father of Jason McGivern & Sadia Mazreki, Sean & Janet McGivern, Ian McGivern & Penny Bourgeois. Dear brother of Pat & Leona McGivern, Theresa & Mike McDonald, John McGivern, Rose Marie & John Johnston, Bernadette & Brent Moore. Brother-in-law of Neil Seney, Rita McGivern and Laura McGivern. He is predeceased by his sister Mary Seney and brothers Francis (October 27, 2017) and Hugh McGivern. Mike will also be forever loved and remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Mike was the Manager of Diagnostic Imaging at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chatham before his retirement. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Wallaceburg. He was a past President and Coach of the Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse Association where he made sure that any child that wanted to play could do so. He had a lifelong passion for sports. Mike was a quiet man of deep faith and compassion. He was an active member of Holy Family Church where he was a Lay Reader and brought Holy Communion to those unable to attend Mass.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the HAYCOCK-CAVANAGH FUNERAL HOME, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish on Tuesday October 31, 2017 at 11: 00 a.m.
