Horrobin races to All-Ontario selection, Kings fall to 73’s, Cards hoops

Horrobin named to 1st Team All-Ontario

Wallaceburg’s Beth Horrobin was named as an Ontario Collegiate Athletic Association (OCAA) 1st Team All-Ontario selection, after a strong showing over the weekend.

Horrobin and the other members of the St. Clair College Cross Country team competed at the OCAA Provincial Championship in wet conditions on Saturday.

The event was hosted by Fanshawe College at London’s Fanshawe Conservation Area.

Horrobin finished in 7th place in the 6km course with a time of 23:28.

The Lady Saints took 5th place as a team overall out of 13 schools.

Kings fall to 73’s

After beating the 73’s on Friday night in Dresden, the Kings fell just short of taking two straight off the Essex squad on Tuesday.

The Kings jumped out to the lead, as Cory Lucier scored at the 14:28 mark of the second period, with helpers from Aidan Lachine and Nolan Ross.

However, Essex came back with two third period goals to clinch the win.

Brendan Johnston made 36 saves in a losing effort for Dresden.

Essex out-shot the Kings 38 to 34.

The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for the Kings, who are now 9-5-1-0 on the season, 4th in the West Stobbs Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

Dresden is hosting Wheatley on Friday and will travel to Lakeshore on Sunday.

Junior Cardinals win, seniors lose to LCCVI in girls hoops

The Lambton-Kent Cardinals topped LCCVI 37-33 in junior girls ‘A/AA’ LKSSAA hoops on Tuesday.

The senior team lost to LCCVI 56-26.
