Approximately $186,000 damage was caused, as firefighters responded to blaze near Bothwell on Wednesday morning.

Chatham-Kent fire officials say crews from Bothwell and Thamesville were called to a home at Haggerty Road and Johnston Road at 9:29 a.m.

“The crews arrived on scene within minutes to find a fully engulfed home,” stated Whitney Burk, public safety officer, in a pres release.

“Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire. No one was home at the time of the fire and there are no injuries to report.”

Burk said Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services are asking the community to take the time to make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working.

“Check the date on your alarms, all alarms (battery operated and hardwired) should be replaced every 10 years,” Burk said.

“Early detection and a home escape plan are key, as you may only have minutes to get out safely.”
