Remembrance Day details for Wallaceburg & Dresden

Remembrance Day is right around the corner, and special ceremonies are set to take place in Dresden, Wallaceburg and on Walpole Island.

During the Poppy campaign leading up to Remembrance Day, the Royal Canadian Legion accepts donations at Legion tables and Poppy boxes all across Canada. From businesses and organizations to retail outlets, restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, and the flower shop around the corner, the Poppy is distributed to wear with pride, Legion officials say.

People in the Dresden and Wallaceburg area will be able to pick up poppies at various locations as well.

There are also services planned for Saturday, November 11 in Wallaceburg and Dresden. Here are the details:

Wallaceburg

– 9:30 a.m.: Service at Wallaceburg District Secondary School, laying of family and business wreaths.

– 10:20: March from the high school to the Cenotaph (there is also a people mover).

– 10:55 a.m.: Official service at the Cenotaph with the laying of the Silver Cross and Wreaths. Government officials speeches and moment of silence. Following the service, a light lunch will be provided free of charge at the Wallaceburg Legion Branch 18.

Dresden

– 10:45 a.m.: Parade forms in the parking lot of Branch 113 and will proceed to the Cenotaph in downtown Dresden.

– 11 a.m.: Two minutes of silence, act of remembrance and laying of the wreaths

– 6:30 p.m.: Remembrance Banquet at The Dresden Legion Branch 113. Tickets are $13. Call 519-683-4862 for tickets.

There will also be a Service of Remembrance at Dresden Community Church on November 5 at 1 p.m.

On Walpole Island First Nation, a Veteran’s Day Ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday, November 9. Here are the details:

Walpole Island

– Bkejwanong Territory Veteran’s Day Ceremony, Thursday November 9

– The service starts at 10 a.m. and will run for approximately 45 minutes

– A procession will start at the Bkejwanong Children’s Centre and head down towards the Veteran’s Monument

– All are welcome to attend
