The Wallaceburg Lakers presented a $1,200 cheque to the Breast Buddies dragon boat team on Saturday.

The funds were raised in October during the Lakers’ Annual Breast Cancer Awareness night.

“The Breast Buddies organization is an important part of our community and we couldn’t think of a better organization to support during Breast Cancer Awareness Month” stated Paul Turner, president of the Lakers, in a press release.

“We would like to thank all of our supporters for making this donation a possibility.”

Kathlene Myers, spokesperson for the Breast Buddies, says the group is thankful for the donation.

“The Breast Buddies team is very grateful and overwhelmed for the support and generosity of both the Lakers organization and the Wallaceburg community,” Myers said in a press release.

“Our team is travelling to an international race in Italy in 2018 and these funds will make a difference towards our goals.”

The Lakers have been invited to join the Breast Buddies on the dragon boat in the spring.

The Breast Buddies dragon boat team is a breast cancer support group that promotes awareness of quality of life after breast cancer.

As a support group, they are always looking to encourage more women.
