Thamesville roots for new Family Medicine Resident

Dr. Robert Wismer

As a teaching site for the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (Western University), Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) has announced the arrival of a new Family Medicine Resident.

Dr. Robert Wismer began his post-graduate medical training in late October.

For the next two years, he will live in Chatham-Kent and gain experience with local physicians who provide support and direction to complete the hands-on portion of his medical training, CKHA officials stated in a press release.

The Chatham-Kent program offers the opportunity to learn and practice medicine in a more rural environment with a variety of learning opportunities in both inpatient and outpatient medicine.

Dr. Wismer, a native of Chatham-Kent, grew up in Thamesville and attended school in nearby Ridgetown.

He received his Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours Physiology) from Western University in 2005 and his Doctor of Medicine from Flinders University of South Australia in 2015.

Dr. Wismer enjoys the outdoors and hopes to spend his free time canoeing and camping with his family.

“Chatham-Kent has always been a big part of who I am. I am thrilled to be able to give something back,” said Dr. Wismer.

Dr. Wismer joins fellow first-year Family Medicine Residents, Drs. Aaron Gross and Adam McDowall, and second-year Family Medicine Residents Drs. Shawn Segeren, Sarah Sikkema, Travis Trudeau and Hina Jhawer.

Keep the Chatham-Kent Public Library in mind this holiday season

Library officials say as the holiday season approaches, and your thoughts turn to how you could give – not only to your loved ones – but give back to your community, keep Chatham-Kent Public Library (CKPL) in mind.

When you give to CKPL, you allow CKPL to give back more to Chatham-Kent, library officials say.

The giving season gets started on GivingTuesday, November 28.

What is GivingTuesday? After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, imagine a day dedicated to giving back.

Black Friday typically kicks off the holiday shopping season, while GivingTuesday on November 28 is meant to kick off the giving season. Thousands of Canadian charities and organization participate in this day, asking their fellow Canadians to give back to their communities.

One place you can give back in your local community is Chatham-Kent Public Library.

On GivingTuesday, and all throughout the month of December, donations can be made in person at any branch or online at www.ckpl.ca/donate.

All donations will receive a tax receipt by year end.

Please call 519-354-2940 or visit your local branch for more information.

Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference.

Thank you for supporting Chatham-Kent Public Library.
