The 26th annual Walpole Island Santa Claus Parade is taking place on Saturday, December 2.

The line-up will begin at 11 a.m., with the parade starting at 12 p.m.

The parade route will begin at Walpole Island’s school and will end at the arena.

Some float prizes will be handed out, in the following categories:

– Programs and Departments

– Businesses

– Community groups

– Families

Everyone is welcome to enter a float, but only the floats entered before Friday, December 1 at 3 p.m. will be eligible for a prize. To register call Marcia Peters or Ashley Shipman at 519-627-2263.

The theme this year is ‘The Gift of Giving.’

The Walpole Island Volunteer Elf Association says to align with this year’s theme, they are encouraging people to bring non-perishable food items, children’s winter coats, hats, mitts and boots and donate them to Walpole Island Social Services ‘MiiJim program’. Volunteers will be collecting those items along the parade route.

Following the parade, people are encouraged to stick around the arena to join Santa and his elves.

There will be soup, cookies, fruit and hot chocolate available.

Candy bags for children 12 and under will also be handed out, along with Toonie toy raffles and the ‘Santa’s Bag of Toys’ draw as well.

The float prize winners will also be announced.
