Fuel Up! Pilot Project launching in Dresden

This Saturday, Lambton Kent Memorial Arena in Dresden will be launching the Fuel Up! Pilot Project.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent Recreation Facilities in partnership with the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit and Super Kids CK has launched Fuel Up! to support healthy eating in three local arenas across Chatham-Kent.

Municipal officials say Tilbury Memorial and Blenheim Memorial Arenas have started offering healthier options in their canteens too.

Throughout the month of September, community members were given the opportunity to help determine which healthier items would be sold in the arenas and were clear in their interest in having healthier choices available for themselves and their families.

“We want to support the community’s health by offering healthy menu items in our arena, a place where parents and children spend a lot of time,” stated Brad Tuckwell, supervisor of Lambton-Kent Memorial Arena, in a press release.

“We also want to support our young athletes by giving them the fuel they need to do their best.”

During the Fuel Up! launch at Lambton Kent Memorial Arena on Saturday, December 9, staff will be available with resources and information starting at 9 a.m.

A newest member of the team, the Super Kids CK Mascot, will be on hand to greet and encourage healthy eating.

All three locations offer tracking cards that allow people who purchase six healthy food or beverage items from their canteens to receive a free Super Kids CK water bottle.

The pilot project will run until the arena canteens close in the spring of 2018.
