The smiles, excitement, screams and crying from seeing Santa

By Glen Turner – Special to the Sydenham Current

It’s that time of year again.

I know – the cold, maybe snow soon, and the greenery is dead…

But! Not that!

It’s that time of year when I get to play Santa.

Sometimes I do it for the fun, and this year… I’m even getting paid for many of the gigs.

That makes me feel kind of, well… ‘Scrooge-ish?’ 🙂

I mean, getting PAID to be Santa? Hmmm…

I could write a book about my experiences as Santa over the years. Seriously.

The kids faces, the smiles, the excitement, the sheer joy of seeing Santa… it’s remarkable.

And I can’t decide which I prefer, the little ones, who just go crazy seeing me, or the older kids, who aren’t so sure about Santa any more. They are a CHALLENGE!

Lately, I’ve been trying to tell parents of toddlers (screaming and crying) that it’s okay to get a photo with Santa like that.

I tell them to keep the pic of their crying offspring on Santa’s knee, hide it, and not bring it out until the child’s wedding day!

Then, it should be seen at the reception, on a big screen, behind the head table.

And then, wait for the reaction from the invited guests!
