Griffith riding 5-game point streak

Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith had 1 goal and 1 assist for the Rochester Americans on Sunday, in a 4-1 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

The 24-year-old was the third star in the game.

He picked up an assist on Saturday and scored in the shootout, as Rochester fell to Hartford 3-2 in the shootout.

Griffith also scored on Friday night, in a 2-1 win over Springfield.

He is currently riding a five game point streak as well.

He now has 3 goals and 3 assists in six games since being sent down to the American Hockey League.

Tartan swimmers compete in Windsor

The Wallaceburg Tartans swim team made some waves on Tuesday, Dec 5 at the Windsor Invitational swim meet.

Over 400 swimmers from 21 schools took part in the meet.

“In this meet, high school and club swimmers are mixed for all events and WDSS swimmers held their own,” said Nancy Schinkelshoek, head coach for the squad.

Emily Tapp had an excellent day clocking OFSAA standard times in the senior girls 200 metre freestyle and the 100 metre freestyle.

Tapp placed 3rd in the 200 metre freestyle, 8th in the 100 metre IM and 4th in the 100 metre freestyle.

“In each event, she was the top high school swimmer, being out touched by only club swimmers,” Schinkelshoek said.

Megan Maxim also placed 3rd in the senior girls 50 metre fly and 100 metre breaststroke.

The senior girls relay team improved their time, placing 3rd in the senior girls freestyle relay and 4th in the medley relay.

The team also had a few new SWOSSAA qualifiers, including: Tallie Laprise in the senior girls 100 metre freestyle and Chelsey Johnson in the senior girls 100 metre backstroke, 100 metre IM and 50 metre fly.

Sara Park was a heat winner in the senior girls 100 metre freestyle and Alvero Escadero in the senior boys 50 metre freestyle.

Johnathon McCaughrin, Rory Young, Zoe Broadbent, Elena Dratva and Liam Hurst all set new personal best times as well.

Kings top Lakers

The Dresden Kings beat the Wallaceburg Lakers in Dresden on Friday night by a score of 8-1.

Kevin Ritzer and Brodie Conlon each scored a pair of goals for Dresden, while Geoffry VandenBoorn, Brady Hogg, Brantley Kuipers and Spencer Preece also scored.

Cody Hitchcock made 17 saves in the win.

Austin Bentley scored the lone Wallaceburg goal.

The Kings improved their record to 16-8-1-1, good for 4th in the West Stobbs Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

Dresden will head to Essex to face the first place 73’s on Tuesday.

Sharks take a bite out of Lakers

The Wheatley Sharks topped with the Lakers on Monday night by a score of 5-2.

Bentley and Cody Nicolaisen scored for Wallaceburg.

The Lakers’ record now sits at 2-23-0-0, last the league.

They’ll host Petrolia on Wednesday.

Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
