Kings knock off 1st place 73’s, Riley eyeing national spot

Kings top 73’s

The Dresden Kings knocked off the top team in the league on Tuesday in Essex.

Brodie Conlon and Brantley Kuipers each scored 2 goals to lead the Kings to a 6-4 win.

Lucas Spence and Nolan VandenBoorn also scored for Dresden, while Brendan Johnston made 34 saves for the victory.

Brendan Ritchie and Kevin Ritzer each had 3 assists.

Dresden’s third straight win improved their record to 17-8-1-1, good for a tie for third place with Amherstburg in the West Stobbs Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

Both the Kings and Admirals have 36 points on the season, only three points behind Essex and Lakeshore, who are tied atop the standings with 39 points.

The Kings host Wheatley on Friday night, December 15 in their next game.

Riley eyeing national spot

Walpole Island’s Keahna Riley was set to attend the Canadian National age-group assessment camp this week.

Reports say Riley is hoping to earn a spot on Canada’s Under-18 roster.

The former Wallaceburg Tartan is playing for Rise Academy in Brantford this season.

High school sports postponed

The majority of high school sports were postponed this week, due to the weather and bus cancellations.
