Officials at Holy Family Catholic School says there was an “overwhelming response” to their ‘Be An Angel’ campaign at the Wallaceburg school.

“The Wallaceburg St. Vincent de Paul food bank was in desperate need of the school’s help,” school officials said in a press release.

“In response, Holy Family Catholic School began a school collection of non-perishable items to support the St. Vincent de Paul Christmas Hamper Campaign.”

For the first two weeks in December, the students collected and donated canned vegetables, canned meats, soup crackers, stove top stuffing and Kraft Dinner.

In all, the students and their families donated over 1,600 items.

For each item donated, students received an angel to color and place on the school’s Christmas Tree.

The class with the most donated items also received a pizza lunch sponsored by the principal.

“The response was terrific and the members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society were both grateful and overwhelmed by the students’ hard work and generosity,” school officials stated.
