Kings top Sharks

The Dresden Kings won their 4th straight game on Friday at Dresden Arena, as they topped the Wheatley Sharks by a score of 5-2.

Nolan VandenBoorn, Geoffry VandenBoorn, Lucas Spence, Brantley Kuipers and Jeff Williams all scored for the Kings. Brendan Ritchie had 2 assists.

Brendan Johnston made 17 saves to pick up the win.

The Kings improved their record to 18-8-1-1, 4th in the West Stobbs Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

Dresden is only 2 points behind 3rd place Amherstburg, with two games in hand. They are only 3 points behind both Essex and Lakeshore, were are tied atop the standings.

The Kings are in Petrolia on Thursday and host Blenheim on Friday.

The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. for both games.

Seth snaps point streak, averaging a point-per-game

Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith had a seven-game point streak snapped on Sunday, but the Rochester Americans managed to come back and beat the Utica Comets 3-2 in overtime.

The 24-year-old forward has skated in 9 games with the Amerks this season, and is registering a point-per-game.

He has 3 goals and 6 assists.

Griffith was sent down to the AHL last month after playing 18 games in the NHL this season.

Griffith scored 2 goals and had 1 assist with the Sabres.

The Amerks host the Belleville Senators on Wednesday, before they face the Laval Rocket in back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday.

WDSS swim team competes in Lancer Swimming Invitational

The WDSS swim team was in Petrolia on Friday competing in the Lancer Swimming Invitational.

– Chelsey Johnson in senior girls 100 metre freestyle and 50 metre butterfly

– Open girls 4 x 100 metre relay: Tallie Laprise, Chelsey Johnson, Zoe Broadbent, Megan Maxim

3rd place finishes

– Tallie Laprise in senior girls 50 metre freestyle and 100 metre freestyle

– Zoe Broadbent in junior girls 50 metre backstroke, with a personal best time

– Megan Maxim in senior girls 100 metre breaststroke

– Emily Tapp in senior girls 100 metre IM

– Liam Hurst in junior boys 50 metre backstroke, with a personal best time
