The Chatham Phoenix Cheer stunt team finished in 2nd place and the Level 1 team finished in 7th place at the event, held on the first weekend of December.

“I am very proud of them, most of them only started cheer leading in September, so for it being their first performance they did amazing and zero deductions too,” Nicole Okrucky, head coach for the team, told the Sydenham Current.

Individually, Ally Roebuck finished 1st for her Level 3 Indy routine.

Roebuck is now set to compete in provincials in February in Kitchener.

“Ally works on her tumbling skills at home in the grass, at school, even inside Walmart,” said Okrucky, who is Roebuck’s mom.

“She has really improved in such a short time. She will be competing as a Level 4 individual at our next competition.”

Okrucky said their team, which trains out of the D.A. Gordon gymnasium in Wallaceburg, was proud to be a part of the competition this month.

“It was just an honour to be a part of such a big event that donates to such a worthwhile cause,” she said.
