Salvation Army Christmas kettles are down

Captain Karen Holland, with the Salvation Army Chatham-Kent Ministries, says the Christmas kettles are down all over Chatham-Kent.

On Friday, Holland told the Sydenham Current on Friday the kettles were down $6,000 to $7,000, compared to last year.

Reports say the gap has been narrowed to an approximate $5,000 shortfall.

“As far as the money that we’ve got in this year, that money goes to providing for families all year round, as well as at Christmas time,” Holland said.

“That’s a little tight as well. Between some toys and putting some money in the kettles, I feel confident that we’ll be able to meet ours goals and look after the families who are in need in the Wallaceburg area and the Chatham-Kent area.”

Holland said the goal for all of Chatham-Kent for the Christmas kettles and the Christmas letter campaign is $460,000 this year.

In the early part of December, the shortfall was pegged at $20,000, reports say.

“The kettles are going to be out right until the 23rd at the end of the day,” Holland said.

The Christmas packages were set to be distributed in Wallaceburg this week as well.
