The St. Vincent de Paul Christmas Hampers were handed out in Wallaceburg on Thursday.

Cindy Shepley, chair of this year’s campaign, told the Sydenham Current the non-denominational initiative has been taking place in the community for many years.
“We put out applications, people fill them in and we make hampers for them,” Shepley said.

“They give us a list of their children and we try and match toys to the requests.”

Shepley said this year the group put together 180 hampers and are supporting 170 children.

“It’s great joy to see the relief on mother’s faces when they know their kid’s are covered for Christmas,” she said.

The group gathered all the hampers on Thursday at the Our Lady of Help Parish Centre in Wallaceburg.
