CKHA recruiting for new board members

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) has released details of its recruitment strategy for its new board of directors.

Hospital officials say this is the next step in the move to a new hospital corporation governing both the Chatham and Wallaceburg hospital sites with a single board of directors.

“Now that the Erie-St. Clair LHIN’s review is complete, we feel that it is time to begin the process for recruiting skills-based board members,” stated Rob Devitt, the Ministry appointed supervisor for the CKHA.

“Returning the Alliance to local governance is my top priority now.”

Devitt recently announced his recommendation for the integration of the Public General Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Sydenham District Hospital into a single corporation, governed by a single, skills-based board of directors.

A formal integration request was submitted to the LHIN in November and the public and interested stakeholders had opportunity to provide feedback to the LHIN, hospital officials say.

At a meeting on December 21, 2017, the LHIN indicated its support for the integration as proposed.

The bar will be set high,” Devitt said about the skills required for the new board.

“Hospitals are complex organizations that require skilled boards drawn from a diverse set of backgrounds to ensure that patient focused high quality care, accountability, and transparency is the prime focus of the organization.”

CKHA officials say the Supervisor will lead the process for recruitment and selection of the board with the support of a nominations and selection committee.

The same executive search firm that conducted the CEO search and supported medical advisory committee searches will support the search committee.

The advertisement is posted now on the hospital website, Askckha.com and will also be sent to local media outlets over the next few weeks seeking interested and appropriately skilled candidates.

The selection process will include community wide advertisements, interviews, and reference checks.

This vigorous process will ensure that the best possible candidates are selected for the new board, hospital officials stated.
