The Chatham-Kent Police Service have released more details about the blaze at the Tom and Al’s warehouse, as an arson investigation continues in Wallaceburg.

Police officials say on December 23 at around 7 a.m. emergency crews responded to a structure fire at 479 King Street in Wallaceburg, also known as the furniture and appliance warehouse for Tom and Al’s Furniture.

“Through investigation it was learned that a garbage dumpster, which housed cardboard, was fully engulfed with fire,” Const. Kelly Helbin told the Sydenham Current.

“The dumpster was in close proximity to the warehouse. In between the dumpster and exterior wall of the warehouse were old mattresses, couches and chairs. These items also caught fire which in turn caught the exterior wall on fire and eventually the entire warehouse became engulfed and was destroyed.”

Helbin said an estimated value of damage is still to be determined.

No injuries were sustained as a result of the fire and the investigation remains on-going, Helbin added.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Brad Hyatt at bradh@chatham-kent.ca.

Anonymous callers may call Crime Stoppers at 1-8000-222-TIPS (8477) and may be eligible for a cash reward.
