Kings win, Lakers lose twice

Kings top Flags, sit two points out of first

The Dresden Kings beat the Mooretown Flags to close out 2017 on Friday night.

Despite being down 1-0, the Kings stormed back with four straight goals the rest of the way, leading to a 4-1 win.

Nolan VandenBoorn scored twice, while Geoffry VandenBoorn and Kevin Ritzer also scored for Dresden.

Brendan Johnston made 25 saves for the victory.

Dresden is now 19-9-1-3 on the year, good for 4th in the West Stobbs Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

With 42 points this season, the Kings are only one point behind both Lakeshore and Amherstburg, who are tied for second with 43 points, and only two points behind Essex, who are in first place with 44 points.

The Kings kick off 2018 on Friday at home, when they host Blenheim.

Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.

Lakers drop two to end 2017

The Wallaceburg Lakers lost a pair of road games to close out 2017.

On Friday, the Lakers fell to Amherstburg by a score of 4-1.

Ryan Nicholson scored on the power play late in the third period, with assists from Evan Brown and Bailey Smith, to break up the shutout.

Patrick Timpany made 32 saves in the loss.

On Saturday, Wallaceburg fell to Mooretown, 4-2.

After a scoreless first period, Jake Vancoillie scored an unassisted goal on the powerplay in the second period to give Wallaceburg a 1-0 lead.

The Flags roared back with three straight goals to grab the lead.

Austin Bentley scored late in the third period to trim the score to 3-2, with assists going to Vancoillie and Matt Tourigny. However, Mooretown added an empty net goal to secure the win.

Travis Moore made 52 saves for Wallaceburg, who were out-shot by the Flags 56-16.

The Lakers are now 3-27-0-0 on the year, last in the West Stobbs Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

Wallaceburg will host the Sharks on Wednesday.

Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
