Help from my friends

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

The Beatles once said that ‘Sometimes, I need a little help from my friends.’

That’s a great idea but they were not the first ones to come up with it.

God was way ahead of them.

In Proverbs 27:17 it says, “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.”

Exactly one week ago a bunch of you made some new year’s resolutions.

In the seven days since you might now be wondering if you actually can quit smoking, or lose the weight, or date your wife more, or whatever as you so confidently asserted in front of all those people at the party.

Alone this may be a daunting task indeed, but in times like this it’s good to get a little help from a trusted friend.

Being accountable to someone, and that person being accountable to you, can work wonders in accomplishing personal goals and hitting targets.

I have done this for years.

I know I am prone to getting lazy and not caring if left to my own devices at times, so I meet with someone regularly to sharpen me and hold me to my word.

I do the same for him, too.

It works both ways.

So don’t despair if you’re staring straight up Mount Resolution and wondering how to make the ascent.

Grab a friend who will make the journey with you.

Together you can help each other meet your goals for 2018.
