MPP responds to Brown allegations & resignation

Monte McNaughton

Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton has responded to the sexual assault allegations and subsequent resignation of the former Ontario PC leader, Patrick Brown.

“On Wednesday night my colleagues and I learned of troubling allegations against former PC Leader, Patrick Brown,” McNaughton said in a statement released on Friday.

“The Ontario PC Caucus collectively asked Patrick to resign as Ontario PC Leader, and dispute these charges in the courts if he feels he has been wrongly accused. I support this decision.”

McNaughton added: “We’re fortunate to have a terrific team of MPPs and candidates who will proudly carry the Ontario PC banner into the next election, 132 days from today. Together we believe that Ontario simply cannot afford another term with Kathleen Wynne and the Liberals.”

McNaughton said an interim leader will be chosen quickly.

“This morning my caucus colleagues and I will meet to choose an Interim Leader while the Party’s elected Executive sets the course for the next several months,” he said.

“I am confident in the Ontario PC Party and will continue to keep you posted as this situation moves forward. I am most grateful for your friendship and support in these tumultuous times.”

McNaughton had run against Brown in the PC leadership race back in 2015.

McNaughton eventually backed out and endorsed Brown for the leadership role.

  1. Since the accuser did not reveal her identity, possibly this is a hoax by the liberal Government to discredit Brown. It seems that the man is guilty until proven innocent This seems just a little bit too convenient so close to the elections.
