Another 5-10 cm of snow expected

A special weather statement remains in effect in Chatham-Kent, as periods of snow will continue today, Sunday, February 4.

Forecasters say an additional 5 to 10 centimetres of snow are likely before it tapers off this evening.

In addition, a sharp Arctic cold front is forecast to sweep across the region this afternoon, Environment Canada officials say.

A sudden drop in temperature from near the freezing mark may make snow-covered roads rather icy late this afternoon.

Motorists should allow extra time to reach their destination, with particular heed to slippery road conditions later today.

The snow affecting Southern Ontario this weekend is courtesy of a low pressure centre currently over Michigan.

It will track across Georgian Bay this morning and into southern Quebec by this evening.

Although it is a relatively weak system, it has absorbed additional moisture from the Great Lakes to produce a general seasonal snowfall across the region.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
