Dresden Kings take Game #1 over Wheatley

The Dresden Kings won Game #1 over the Wheatley Sharks on Monday night by a score of 3-2 at Dresden Arena.

The Kings lead the best-of-seven opening round Provincial Junior Hockey Leaugue playoff series, 1-0.

Dresden scored all three of their goals in the first period.

Brantley Kuipers, Darien Davis and Derek Shaw all found the back of the net for the Kings.

The Sharks mounted a comeback in the third period, but only managed to squeeze two goals by Kings goalie Brendan Johnston, who made 23 saves for the victory.

Geoffry VandenBoorn and Nolan Ross each has two assists in the win.

Game #2 is set for Wednesday in Wheatley, while Game #3 will be Friday night in Dresden.

Both games get underway at 7:30 p.m.

Regular season finale

The Kings topped the Sharks in the regular season finale on Friday night at Dresden Arena.

The final score was 4-2.

Kevin Ritzer scored twice, while Kenny Chisolm and Nolan VandenBoorn also found the back of the net.

Johnston made 25 saves for the win.

Despite winning their last nine games, the Kings still finished in second place overall in the West Stobbs Division. Dresden’s record was 27-9-1-3 for 58 points.

The Lakeshore Canadiens finished first overall with a 27-8-2-3 record and 59 points.
