Parking ban being implemented across Chatham-Kent

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has placed a 72-hour ban on the parking of vehicles on municipal streets and roads, as a snowfall warning has been issued by Environment Canada.

Weather forecasts are indicating heavy snowfall with accumulation of up to 29 cm of snow by the end of the weekend, municipal officials say.

The ban starts at 10 a.m. tomorrow, February 9 and will continue to 10 a.m. on Monday, February 12.

Municipal officials say the ban is being implemented so snowploughs can clear away the snow more effectively.

“We are asking motorists to make every effort to move their vehicles off the streets so that the ploughs can clear the roads more effectively,” stated Miguel Pelletier, director of Public Works, in a press release.

“We recognize that this is an inconvenience for the public. However, emergency vehicles, citizens and local businesses all depend on these streets being cleared as quickly as possible. The order will be rescinded as soon as road conditions warrant it to limit the inconvenience to residents.”

The parking ban has been declared under Chatham-Kent (traffic and parking) by-law 245-2004, section 218.02 and 218.03.
