A total of 1,400 pigs were saved after a barn fire in Blenheim on Monday.

Fire officials say crews from station #18 – Blenheim and station #14 – Erieau responded to 9170 Old Street Line at approximately 11 a.m. on Monday morning for a barn fire.

Employees noticed flames coming from the roof of the structure and safely used a fire extinguisher to put the fire out, fire officials say.

Firefighters arrived on scene and quickly cut away portions of the roof and dowsed hot spots to prevent the fire from spreading.

The damage is estimated at $20,000, while $600,000 was saved including 1,400 swine.

CKFES prevention team was called to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire, which has been ruled accidental.

One of the workers was treated on scene by EMS from smoke inhalation.
