Students at Wallaceburg Christian School have been riding to school in style to start 2018.

School officials say a new school bus was purchased to replace the one that was damaged in an accident back in October near Dresden.

“The students would like to thank everyone who has donated to the ongoing bus drive,” school officials told the Sydenham Current.

“The school hopes to replace a second bus as well.”

The school has raised about $120,000 so far to pay for one bus

They are looking to complete the payment of another new bus by raising an additional $50,000.

School officials say insurance only covered a small portion after the accident because of the age of the damaged bus.

Having a bus drive was something the school had planned to do soon anyway.

“After the bus accident it seemed like a good thing to do for replacing both of our buses,” school officials said.

“We have a lot of amazing supporters of our school.”

One of their ongoing supporters is the Re:Find Charity Thrift Shoppe in downtown Wallaceburg.

They made a $45,000 donation to the school back in November.

Police officials say the driver of the car, a 78-year-old Wallaceburg woman suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries as a result of the collision.

Police say in addition, minor injuries were reported by some of the passengers on the school bus, but medical assistance was not required.

Selena Finley, whose three children were on the bus when the crash occurred, told the Sydenham Current she is thankful none of the children were seriously hurt.

“We are just so blessed that everyone is okay,” Finley said.

“The kids are a bit shaken up, but they handled it very well. We are beyond thankful that our bus driver looks after our children like they are her own. She too is doing well.”

Finley said Wallaceburg Christian School is like a small family.

“So we all come together in a time of need,” she said.

“Our prayers for healing and strength go out to the driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision.”

Wallaceburg Christian School officials were thankful as well.

“We give thanks to God for his protection during an accident involving our bus this morning,” school officials posted on social media.

“Students and bus driver are all fine. We pray for healing for a broken bone that a passenger suffered in the car involved in the incident.”

Police said the crash remained under investigation.
