The Dresden Kings completed the sweep over the Wheatley Sharks on Monday night with a thrilling double overtime win. Brantley Kuipers was the hero in Wheatley, scoring the winner just 11 seconds into the second extra frame, clinching the 3-2 win. Brendan Johnston was stellar between the pipes for Dresden, making 48 saves. The second round of the playoffs gets underway on Monday night in Dresden, when the King host the Essex 73’s. Puck drops at 8:30 p.m.

For the 14th year in a row, the Wallaceburg Tartans are headed to the OFSAA Swimming Championships. Emily Tapp qualifed in the Sr. Girls 200 metre and 100 metre freestyle, while Shona Branton swam qualifed in the Open Girls 100 metre breaststroke. SWOSSAA was held in Windsor on Tuesday, February 13.

The Wallaceburg Tartans Sr. Boys basketball team are the local ‘AA’ league champs. The Tartans upset the top ranked LCCVI squad 54-51 on Thursday night in Petrolia. Gabe Namink was named league MVP.

Wallaceburg Minor Baseball is looking for umpires for the 2018 season. The organization is looking for umpires ages 12 and up for this paid opportunity. Experience is not required and clinics are available. Registration for the 2018 season for players is taking place at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena on March 4 and March 18 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Contact the group on Facebook for more details.

Breaking the Colour Barrier, a joint project by the University of Windsor and the Chatham Sports Hall of Fame, documents the life of Wilfred (Boomer) Harding and the other members of the Chatham Coloured All-Stars baseball team. They were the first Black team to win an Ontario Baseball Association provincial championship in 1934. The Chatham-Kent Public Library is hosting a display on the project during February in recognition of Black History Month.
