Police investigating two suspicious fires

Police are investigating two suspicious fires that took place in Chatham on January 31.

Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers officials say at approximately 10:45 p.m. police and fire attended a home on Stanley Avenue near the south end of the Black Bridge in Chatham.

A fire inside of a shed was quickly extinguished.

Shortly after this another fire was reported at the old Water Works property at the north end of the Black Bridge, Crime Stoppers officials say.

At both scenes police and fire detected the strong odour of Kerosene and a search of the area found an empty can of fuel in a wooded area.

“Both fires are deemed suspicious,” Crime Stoppers officials said in a press release.

“Arson is a dangerous and serious crime. If you have any information that can lead the police to the persons
responsible call 1-800-222- 8477 and you could earn a cash reward.”
