The Wallaceburg Antique Motor and Boat Outing (WAMBO) is teaming up with Wallaceburg District Secondary School (WDSS) for an exciting new program.
The WAMBO Youth Ambassador Program has been created in order to recognize Wallaceburg high school students for their community spirit, offer them an excellent volunteer opportunity and provide some much needed funds for their post-secondary education.
“We are thrilled to launch this new program and offer two bursaries to graduating Grade 12 students in Wallaceburg, who are continuing their post-secondary education at a certified college, university, trade or apprenticeship program,” said Brian Armitage, a member of the WAMBO board of directors.
“We are looking for student leaders who have demonstrated community volunteer initiatives. Launching this new annual program is a great way to kick-off our 30th anniversary festivities for WAMBO,” added Bill Wolsing, chair of the WAMBO committee.
One male and one female graduating student will be selected by an independent WAMBO selection committee and approved by the WAMBO board of directors.
The award for the 2017/2018 school year is in the amount of $1,500 per student.
The winning “WAMBO Ambassadors” must be available at various times to attend and speak about the contribution WAMBO makes to the community and the schedule of events for the upcoming event. This may include print, radio and television media as well as various community meetings and functions between the announced date, during the week of June 25, 2018, with majority of responsibilities during WAMBO 30, Aug. 10, 11 and 12, 2018.
Interested students must complete a WAMBO application, no later than Wednesday June 1 at 12 p.m. 2018, by emailing ambassador@wambo.ca. A candidates volunteer initiatives must be above and beyond the current Ontario Ministry of Education 40 hour student curriculum requirements.
The application consists of the following:
– Application (individual references/recommendations may be attached to application)
– Resume
– A written 700 to 1000 word essay on “why volunteering is important to you and your community”?

The successful candidates will be announced during the final week of June, 2018 with a certificate presented on June 28, 2018 at the WDSS commencement.
The awards will be presented on Saturday August, 11, 2018 on the main stage during WAMBO.
