Do you love your job?

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

I must tell you something about myself.

I love my job.

As a pastor, I don’t really see what I do as a job but more as a vocation, a way of life.

Nevertheless, I wake up each day looking forward to the day ahead.

I really love what I do and cannot imagine myself doing anything else.

American entrepreneur and Apple co-founder, Steve Jobs, once said, “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.”

Think about that for a minute.

Back when I was in high school and then university I worked as a busboy and then a waiter in a fine-dining restaurant.

That was such a great job and it helped pay for six years of post-secondary education.

Not everyone who worked at this restaurant, however, liked being there – and it showed!

I got to the place where I dreaded working with certain people because all they ever did was complain.

They didn’t like our boss, the hours were too long, the pay was lousy, the customers were demanding, etc.

You get the idea.

Lorna, on the other hand, was the ideal employee.

Every busboy liked working for Lorna, one of the senior waitresses, because it was obvious to all that she loved her job.

Oh, and because she loved her job it was always a fun time working with her.

Her attitude greatly influenced the way I approached each shift I worked.

As a Christian I started thinking about the words of Colossians 3:17: “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

How do you feel about your job?

Is it time for an attitude adjustment?

Make the decision today to change the way you think about your job.

As Steve Jobs would tell you, it is the only way to do great work.
