Margit (Horuci) Watson

Surrounded by her family, Margit (Horuci) Watson, known to friends and family as Marg, died peacefully on March 10, 2018 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance after a yearlong struggle with pancreatic cancer.

She was 87 years old. Marg was predeceased by: her husband James Andrew Watson (2001), her mother Rozal Horuci, her father Steve Horuci, brother-in-law James Mills, sister-in-law Agnes Russell, sister-in-law Edith Foster, daughter-in-law Bonnie Watson and grandson David Limoges. Marg is survived by her brother Steve Horuci (Betty), her sister Ida Mills, her children: Mark Watson; Paul Watson (Patricia), Cheryl Limoges (Marcel), David Watson (Alison), Tarry Aitcheson (George), Dan Watson, Robert Watson (Kellie) and Lori Spencer (Peter) and 17 grandchildren: Tricia Zelina (Brad), Christopher Watson, Bryan Watson (Jill Young), Matthew Watson (Emily), Erin Robinson (Matthew), Joshua Watson, Richard Limoges (Katie DeCecco), Marc Limoges (Kirby), Michael Watson (Samantha Nuttall), Vanessa Reaume (Ben), Scott Watson (Danielle Kilby), Conrad Aitcheson (Kate), Shelby Aitcheson, Jennifer Watson, Adam Watson (Jocelyn), Julie Watson (Kevin Downey), and Jaclyn Watson; 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Marg was raised in Bothwell and moved to London to study at teacher’s college.

Marg started her teaching career as the only teacher in a one-room schoolhouse with students in all eight grades. Marg ended her full time teaching career at Holy Family School; and then became a supply teacher throughout Chatham-Kent and Lambton until she retired. Marg and her husband James Watson lived and farmed a “Century Farm”, which has been in the Watson family since 1867.

Marg loved gardening and spent many hours in her yard in the spring and summer. Marg was an avid painter and loved learning. She wrote 2 historical books and wrote numerous poems focusing on life in Chatham-Kent and Canada. Her books and poetry can be found at the Chatham-Kent Library or they can currently be found online at: http://www.margwatson.ca. Marg was a fan of all things Royal. She was filled with enthusiasm when she recently received a letter from the Queen’s Representative: the Governor General of Canada the Right Honourable David Johnson, describing how he read and enjoyed Marg’s poetry about Canada, specifically the poem “Rideau Hall” in her book “Canada Celebrating Confederation 1867 – 2017”.

Visitation will be held at the HAYCOCK-CAVANAGH FUNERAL HOME, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg from 6 – 9 PM on Friday, April 20. A celebration of the life of Marg Watson will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday, April 21 at 11:00 am.
