A hockey hero from Dresden lost his battle with cancer last weekend. Ken Houston, who played nine seasons in the National Hockey League, died peacefully at home on Saturday, March 10, with his family by his side. He was 64. Houston was set to be laid to rest on Friday in Chatham.

Police are investigating after a fatal crash on Kimball Road just outside of Wallaceburg.
Police say at around 2 a.m. on Friday emergency crews responded the scene, where a car had left the roadway and struck a tree. A 19-year-old Windsor woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ontario is partnering with Wallaceburg and Chatham-Kent businesses to help create 70 jobs and retain more than 330 others. Steven Del Duca, Minister of Economic Development and Growth, was in C-K on Thursday for the announcements. Aarkel in Wallaceburg is receiving just over $1M from the province, while Wallaceburg’s Rulmeca Canada will receive $500,000. 15 jobs are being created at Aarkel and 21 jobs are being created at Rulmeca.

Ford Motor Company is issuing two safety recalls in North America. Company officials say they are issuing a safety recall in North America for approximately 1.3 million 2014-18 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles for potentially loose steering wheel bolts that could result in a steering wheel detaching from the steering column.

And finally… The Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Delaware Nation at Moraviantown and Walpole Island First Nation are partnering up to face the Smart Cities Challenge from the Federal Government. The competition requires municipalities and governments to form partnerships and determine outcomes to improve their quality of life through the use of data and connected technology. The top prize is $50M to the winning communities.
