25 families were displaced following an apartment fire at 800 Wallace Street in Wallaceburg on Sunday morning. Fire officials say $250,000 damage was caused and the cause is still under investigation. Donations were being gathered for the families impacted by the blaze…

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management was notified after a blaze at 79 Highbury Cr. in Wallaceburg on Tuesday night. There were no injuries and the cause is still under investigation.

Before the firefighters responded to the Highbury blaze, they were investigating a vehicle fire on King Street. Police say an arson investigation is underway after a Molotov cocktail was tossed into a parked vehicle. Police allege the owners security camera recorded an unknown male smashing the window of their vehicle before torching it.

An investigation is on-going after a dog-on-dog attack on Reaume Ave. in Wallaceburg on March 17. Animal control officials say the victim’s dog sustained moderate injuries to his neck and ear. The dog is now home with the owner and stable. The attacking dog, a male bull terrier, has since been seized from the owner’s home.

Wallaceburg’s Julie Rice is recovering in a Toronto hospital after receiving her long-awaited double lung transplant earlier this month. Rice says her surgery took place on March 9 and lasted approximately 12 hours. A GoFundMe campaign is underway to help Rice off-set costs, there is also an account setup for her at CIBC.

And finally… the Municipality of Chatham-Kent has released their annual ‘Sunshine List’. The list of employees earning more than $100,000 increased to 228 in 2017, up from 184 in 2016. The 2017 list includes 126 members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service and 43 members of the Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services.
