The Wallaceburg Red Devils Junior ‘B’ Lacrosse team tied Oakville in their pre-season opener on Saturday. The Red Devils were trailing Oakville 11-6 going into the third period, before storming back for a 12-12 draw. Wallaceburg scored the tying goal with just five seconds remaining. The Red Devils were set to play another exhibition game on Saturday in Clarington. Wallaceburg’s regular season home opener is on Tuesday, April 17 against London. The game will get underway at 7:30 p.m.

The Wallaceburg Lakers announced that Assistant Coach Shawn Simpson has chosen to accept a coaching position with the Kent Minor Midget ‘AA’ Cobras. Darryl Lucio, President of Hockey Operations says they will miss his influence on the young men building the team and they wish him all the best 8n the future. Next season, Ritch Kanally will return as the team’s general manager and head coach Ryan Paxton has also committed to returning next season. The Lakers finished in last-place last season with a 3-37-0-0 record.

Some tragic news in the sports world… a fatal crash on Friday in Saskatchewan has devastated the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team. RCMP officials say investigators have determined there were 29 people on the bus at the time of the collision, including the driver. They confirmed fourteen people have died as a result of this collision. Reports say the head coach and the team captain were among those who died in the crash. Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau said in a statement that the entire country is in shock and mourning after hearing about the incident.
