Multiple charges laid after driver flees from police

A Walpole Island woman faces multiple charges after allegedly assaulting someone, stealing a vehicle and fleeing from police while under the influence of alcohol.

Lambton OPP officials say on April 9, 2018 at 6 p.m. members of the Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were requested to assist the Walpole Island First Nation Police Service with an assault in progress.

Police officials allege as the OPP entered onto Walpole Island they were advised that a female suspect had committed an alleged assault, was intoxicated and had stolen a Dodge Caravan.

A short time later the OPP located the suspect and the stolen vehicle being driven off the Island and onto Dufferin Avenue, police allege.

It was at this time several attempts were made to safely apprehend the suspect.

A short time later the OPP located the suspect and the stolen vehicle within a parking lot of a Corunna business.

The suspect, a 19 year-old Walpole Island First Nation woman was arrested and charged for the alleged offences of:

– Assault

– Theft Under $5,000- Motor Vehicle

– Dangerous Operation- Motor Vehicle

– Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer- Motor Vehicle

– Driving While Ability Impaired – Motor Vehicle (Alcohol)

– Driving with More than 80 milligrams of Alcohol in 100 milliliters of Blood

She was held in custody pending a bail hearing dated for yesterday.
