Fatal crash outside of Wallaceburg

The Chatham-Kent Police Service are investigating after a fatal crash outside of Wallaceburg.

Police officials allege that on April 20 at approximately 8:18 p.m. emergency crews attended a motor vehicle collision on Border Road.

Police say a single vehicle had left the roadway and entered a water filled ditch landing upside down and becoming partially submerged.

A volunteer firefighter was on scene when a Chatham-Kent police constable arrived and they were able to remove an 18-year-old female and an 18-year-old male from the vehicle.

Further police, fire and EMS personnel arrived and provided emergency first aid to the vehicle occupants.

The male was transported to Sydenham District Hospital and later Hotel-Dieu Windsor to be treated for hypothermia.

The female was transported to Sydenham District Hospital in critical condition and died as a result of her injuries.

The names of those involved in the collision are not being released at this time.

Members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service offer their deepest condolences to the family and friends of everyone involved.

The collision remains under investigation.
