Americans charged with impaired driving at the border

Lambton OPP official allege that on April 11 at 1:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. members of the Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended the Canada Border Services enforcement building at the Bluewater Bridge in Point Edward in response to two separate incidents involving two alleged impaired driver.

Investigation revealed that on both occasions, two separate drivers attempted to gain entry into Canada via the Bluewater Bridge.

Police say on both occasions, the primary Canada Customs Border Officer recognized that the drivers had recently consumed alcoholic beverages.

Both drivers were administered ‘road side’ screening devices resulting in a ‘fail reading’.

As a result, the OPP transported the drivers to the OPP Detachment at which time they both provided breath samples in excess of the legal limit.

In fact, one of the drivers provided a sample well over twice the legal limit, OPP officials allege.

Charged for the alleged offence of operating a motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood was:

A 49-year-old Marysville, Michigan man and a 27-year-old Port Huron, Michigan man.

Both drivers were released and sent back to Michigan through an Immigration process and must appear at the Sarnia Court House in order to deal with the allegations.
