The Knights of Pythias in Wallaceburg has once again made a donation to Special Olympics Chatham-Kent.

Representatives from both groups met recently at the K of P hall, where the Knights handed over a $2,000 (U.S) cheque.

Bea Stacey, the group’s coordinator, says the money will go toward covering different fees for busing or for facility usage.

“We use the W.I.S.H. Centre and we use the (YMCA) for our swims so it pays for all of those and any stuff we need, like equipment,” she said.

“So it helps to fund all of that.”

Stacey said this is the fourth straight year the K of P has donated to their group.

“We are very appreciative of that,” she said.

Doug McCallum said the K of P Grand Lodge of Michigan is really supportive of this initiative.

“That is one of their projects through the year because we do have a few members of Grand Lodge that have children that are Special Olympians and have special needs.”

Stacey said they are always looking for volunteers.

“We need people to join our committee, so we are always looking for people to do that,” she said.

“If they are interested we do have a local website… or they can contact me at 519-436-8473. We are always looking for people to help with sports activities. To help with our local committee. So anybody that wants to do that. Bocce ball is one that we really are looking for someone to take on… we we are (also) looking for soccer coaches.”

Stacey said they are also looking fro athletes.

“They can call me. Any athletes. We will accept anyone that comes to us and wants to participate,” she said.
