Alysson Storey has filed her papers and is making a run at the Mayor’s chair in Chatham-Kent.

“Chatham-Kent made me who I am. I love this community,” Storey said on her campaign website.

“We need to build a place where people dream to be, not dream of escaping from. Where people want to be, not avoid. Where businesses open, not close. Where people feel heard, not ignored. Where our communities come together, not pull apart.”

Storey added: “A place where communication and collaboration thrives instead of divisiveness and negativity. A place that is proactive, not reactive. A place where doors are opened instead slammed shut. A place that champions expertise not silences it. A place that respects diversity and equality. A place that is a true reflection of who we want to be.”

Storey was previously the manager of culture for the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and is currently the manager of donor relations for the Chatham-Kent Hospice.

She is also a past president of the Rotary Club in Chatham and has recently spearheaded the “Build the Barrier” campaign, which is advocating for concrete barriers along the 401 from Tilbury to London. She is also a co-founder and co-organizer of TEDx Chatham-Kent.

Storey, 43, is married to Dan Davidson, who teaches elementary school for the Lambton-Kent District School Board.

She was born and raised in Chatham, and her and her husband split their time between Chatham and their family cottage along Lake Erie in Rondeau.

Storey and Chatham Coun. Darrin Canniff both filed their nomination papers on the first day of eligibility and will be running for mayor.

Election day in Chatham-Kent is October 22, 2018.
